National Overview
- Since late June-2025, Pakistan has endured record breaking monsoon rains leading to widespread flash floods, urban inundation and glacial lake outburst flood (GLOFAS) across multiple province.
- nationally, over 200 people have died, including nearly 100 children. Punjab reported 123 fatalities, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) had 40, Sindh 21, Balochistan 16, and Islamabad & AJK had one each
- More than 560 people injured, with 462 injuries recorded in Punjab alone
- Climate change, accelerated glacier melt, and unusually early monsoon activity are cited as underlying causes.
Region wise Breakdown
- Chakwal received a staggering 427 mm of rainfall in 10 hours, leading to dam breaches mass evacuation and collapse related facilities including a man and his son
- Lahore and Rawalpindi saw severe urban flooding, major feeder outages traffic paralysis and submerged underpass across areas like Mall Road, Canal Road, Chauburji, Johar Town and more.
- Fatalities in Punjab soared to 123 with hundreds of injuries large scale damage to roads and infrastructure followed major downpours in Chakwal and Rawalpindi.
Sindh (Khairpur, Larkana, Sukkur, Jacobabad, Dadu, Mirpurkhas)
- Heavy rainfall led to serious flooding in interior Sindh Khairpur 069mm, Larkana 123mm, Rohri/Mohenjo Daro 119 mm, Sukkur 100 mm, Jacobabad 99 mm, plus widespread inundation across Dadu and Mirpur khas.
- A canal breach near Jacobabad destroyed rice crops over a 70-foot wide gap urban and rural flooding affected roads and villages alike
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa ( Mountain districts and Swat region)
- KP recorded 40 deaths including multiple children 23 deaths occurred in one week alone.
- Flash floods in Swat Valley killed dozens of tourists at least 18, with itinerant picnickers swept away by rising Sawat River waters.
- In June, earlier flash floods also killed at least 18 tourists in northern KP.
Gilgit Baltistan
- Flash flood and cloudburst event affected Chilas, Skardu, Sawat, Astore by July 22 at least 3 tourists killed and 15 missing and rescue operation remain ongoing with army support.
- Nine bodies recovered so far including family and group and 12 missing thought buried under debris along the Karakoram Highway.
- July rainfall is 82% above average compared to last year raising fears of repeated 2022 scale damage
Balochistan
- Flash flood damage crops, displaced residents and injured at least 10 people due to collapses of walls and solar panel.
- Railway disruptions from washed away lines Chaman and gaps near Noshki upset trade route to Iran.
- Seven deaths in early July flood spells 22 districts affected.
Islamabad- Rawalpindi
- Islamabad recorded a flood related fatality in the Koral areas when a youth was swept away. Urban areas especially Nala Lai overflowed disrupting neighborhoods.
- Severe flooding in Rawalpindi caused collapsed roads sirens triggered for evacuation homes inundated the PM convinced an emergency meeting.
The National Emergency Operation Center (NEOC) and NDMA issued multiple impact based weather alerts, warnings of flash floods urban inundation and GLOF risks through July 25.
The Pakistan Army led helicopter evacuations of 300 tourists from stranded areas in Chilas & Skardu and engineering crews are working to reopen the Karakoram Highway.
