LAHORE Electric Metro- the Orange Line Metro Train
- The orange line, Lahore’s first metro rail services began operation on 25 Oct 2020. It runs for 27.1 km 26 station underground form ALI TOWN.
- Rolling stock: 27 five car trains built by China CRRC Zhuzhou using a 750V DC third rail, capable of speeds up to 80 km/h
- Designed for 30,000 passenger per hour full route travel time is 45 minutes much faster than road commute
- Operation hours daily from 06:15 to 22:00 serving up to 250,000 riders per day initial ridership started modest but expected to grow by 2025
- Electricity needs 20 MW backup power provisions in place with multiple substation at UET and Khatam-e-Nabuwat stations.
FAST TRAIN PLANS LAHORE RAWALPINDI ISLAMABAD
- Pakistan Railways plans to develop a fast train service between LAHORE and Rawalpindi/ISLAMABAD aiming to cut journey time to approximately 2 hours thanks to speed up to 160 km/h
- A 250 billion budget has been allocated by the Punjab government for the next three years toward this project including modern signaling upgraded tracks and dual gauge lines under the ML-1 upgrade program under CPEC
- Work on this modernization has already commenced with more funding Rs 350 billion confirmed for the province’s infrastructure improvement
